| Valves for Large Commercial, Municipal
and Golf |
| Gate Valve: Shut off valve for pipe sizes 2" to 36", iron body, many different
interior materials to accommodate different liquids. Recommended:
2" threaded bronze gate valves with cross handle; push-on 8" or smaller
and mechanical flange for 10" and over pipe. Valves over 3"
should be resilient-wedge, square nut top, with poured concrete thrust
block. |
 |
| Electric Valve - Brass: Heavy-duty brass construction for golf course, large commercial
and municipal use; 1" to 3", available with pressure regulation, scrubber features, and in
an angle-valve configuration. Plastic Valves are really heavy-duty and
always improving, but nothing is as tough as brass |
 |
| Butterfly Valve: Used wherever throttling or flow control may be necessary. Body usually
of ductile iron with many different materials and specifications possible for various uses.
Sized 2" to 36", manual or electric. |
 |
| Pressure Reducing/Regulating Valve: Large cast iron body, electric or hydraulic actuation. Basic
valve design can have many different uses: constant pressure, check valve, altitude, surge
protection, pressure relief, reservoir level control or as a giant electric valve; 1" to 24".
These are expensive, so make sure you are getting what you really need
or call GEA for help. |
 |
| Air/Vacuum Relief Valve: Placed at high spots on main line piping to release air; also
opens to allow large quantities of air into system when draining to prevent damage.
Metal or plastic; no controls; various sizes with different features.
Always put a threaded street ell on top as shown to prevent dirt or
other debris from clogging up the small air inlet hole. |
 |
| Reduced Pressure Backflow Preventor: Used for protection of large potable water
mains; municipal, golf course, large commercial, apartment complexes.
Prevents irrigation water from coming back into drinking water. Check
local and/or state codes, they vary widely. |
 |
| Wye Strainer: Can be fitted with various size/type filter screens to protect pipes and
irrigation equipment from foreign matter. Can be equipped with automatic flush
feature. Usually incorporated right at the pump station discharge. |
 |
| Valves for Residential and Commercial
Use |
Gate Valve - Small: Typical shut off valve, to isolate irrigation system from water supply.
Brass or bronze construction; 1/2" to 3"; with slip ends for soldering (recommended) or
female threaded inlets for male adapters. |
 |
Gate Valve - Medium: Heavy-duty bronze version of the smaller gate valve. Threaded
inlets; commonly sized 1 1/2" to 3". Used for isolating irrigation laterals, shut-off, golf
courses, etc. Cross handle available to prevent vandalism. Use teflon tape
on all threaded connections. |
 |
Electric Valve: Common in-line design for use in many different types of zones. Sizes
from 1/2" to 3", plastic construction, many different manufacturers. Usually installed
below grade in a valve box. |
 |
Electric Anti-Siphon Valve: Same use as in-line valve but with anti-siphon feature
which prevents backflow into potable water system. Must be installed 12" above highest
sprinkler/outlet in system. |
 |
| Backflow Prevention Valve: Prevents irrigation water from draining or siphoning
back into potable water supply. Install 12" above highest sprinkler in system, between
water main and irrigation valves. |
 |
| Check Valve - Small: Check valves of all types permit water flow in only one direction
and close when reverse flow occurs. Prevents backflow, but is not suitable for protecting
potable water supplies. |
 |
| Pressure Reducing Valve: PRV's are used to reduce pressure before entering the system.
Commonly used for drip systems or wherever excessive pressure could cause
damage. The same housing can be used for filters. |
 |
| Ball Valve: Brass or bronze construction with either threaded or slip (solder) ends in a great
variety of sizes. Used for isolation, often where the valve will need to be
turned on and off often. Reliable, drip-free design. |
 |
| PVC Ball Valve: Used for various isolation purposes in a PVC pipe system, usually with
solvent weld (slip) ends and in sizes from 1/2" to 12". (We don't recommend sizes over 4") |
